Feathers pillar in the Krasnoyarsk Stolby reserve

The Feathers pillar is quite rightly considered the most beautiful and photogenic pillar rock in the Krasnoyarsk Stolby Nature Reserve. This is a symbol of the Krasnoyarsk Stolby (Pillars), the city of Krasnoyarsk and the Siberian taiga as a whole, as there you can find everything that may be interesting for tourists such as picturesque rocks surrounded by massive trees around, clinging to the rocky ground with their roots.

The Feathers is a very compact pillar. Its height is only 42 meters, and the diameter of the base and top is almost the same. The Feathers consists of syenite (a type of granite) vertical strata standing on a foundation. Two extreme feathers really look like feathers of a large bird lending a special beauty to this pillar.

Separately, you should give a special note to the community of stolbists. These people come to the reserve for rock climbing and honing their mountaineering skills. For them, the Feathers is the most difficult pillar, since among its steep rocks there are no easy ways to the top. However, there are those who not only climb up, but also jump from one ‘feather’ to another.
